Innovations

I decided to move towards some goals. It is nearing time of year when Christmas comes up and the University of the West Indies decides they want a $60,000 gift certificate. Lately I have also been thinking of it as the time when I treat the person I care most about. The only tricky thing about it is how is a broke-flat-broke fraternity boy like me going to pull through with these expenses.

Well world, guess what rabbits came out of the top-hat.

Wifi. Wireless-fidelity in my neighbourhood of Ivy Green Mews. The antennas are up and broadcasting at steady three bars across the road. I am (though unsuccessfully) trying to meet with a company next door that seems averse to getting adsl and trying to convince them to try my way. If they say yes then I will get a linksys access point and bridge the connection so that they get five bars of strong signal. If they say no then... they won't say no to my offer. After they say yes I want to move to getting a wifi amplifier to boost my signal. Unfortunately it will be a big 5-mile boost, and it is expensive- but the idea is to have 5bars throughout my community. I am not buying a booster without a steady customer though.

Another innovation of mine is the wagonist approach to VOIP. I have set up a special account using Skype that allows me to help people make VOIP calls at a whopping U$1c a minute. Imagine that, U$1c a minute. CWJ is giving out a postpaid service and I would offer a prepaid alternative. I am currently testing the external phones for the service before I go out and say I can provide it. It would have to be done by referrals only though. I would hate to lose my day job over something like that.

I have bigger dreams but they require a stronger base like these two basic services. I guess I need to market myself better, I don't know. I will definately try to put together those building blocks.

I found a nifty place with a lot of potential on the web. www.animesynergy.com is the place.

Next time I come here you'll hear how it went with that law firm I am trying to woo.
